Endocrinology

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that deals with the entire endocrine system, diseases associated with it, and secretions known as hormones that are specific to it. An endocrinologist has the ability to diagnose and treat the problems caused by hormonal imbalances and eradicate the complications that result from them. Hormones help to regulate metabolism, growth, respiration, reproduction, movement and sensory perception. The study of Endocrinology focuses not only on hormones but also on various other glands and tissues that produce these hormones. The endocrine system comprises of many glands located in different parts of the body that discharge hormones directly into the blood and not into the duct system.

Adrenal Glands

This protects the pituitary and allows only very room for its expansion. Most of the vital functions of the endocrine glands is controlled by the pituitary and hence has the name the Master gland. A pituitary disease is a pituitary disorder that affects the pituitary gland. Overproduction or underproduction of the hormones produced from the pituitary gland directly affects the end-organ.

Thyroid

The thyroid gland is located at the front part of the neck right below the thyroid cartilage. The gland produces thyroid hormones that help in regulating metabolic rates in the human system and help in regulating body energy and temperature, the use of hormones in the body and also the growth and maturation of tissues. Diseases that arise due to the thyroid gland usually end up producing too much (resulting in hyperthyroidism) or too little (hypothyroidism) thyroid hormones.
