Hair Loss

One of the most common and most occurring problems for people of all ages is hair loss or alopecia. This is when a part of the head or part of the body starts to lose hair. Hair loss is noticed in males and mostly affects the scalp.

Causes

Hair loss and hair growth happens at the very same time which makes it difficult to notice. Hair loss mostly occurs when regeneration of hair growth stops and is replaced with a scar tissue. The very common causes would be:

• Family history
• Hormonal imbalance
• Careless hair treatments
• Abnormal immune system
• High levels of stress
• Changes in lifestyle
• Medication side-effects

Symptoms

The symptoms and signs of hair loss can happen due to many reasons and in a number of different ways. Hair loss could start suddenly and rapidly increase or even gradually affecting just the scalp area. Some types of hair loss are temporary and some are permanent. The general symptoms are:

• Spots or patches of hair loss on the scalp

Male Pattern Baldness

Androgenic alopecia or male baldness pattern is one of the most common types or hair loss in men which is also known as pattern hair loss affecting only the male population. It affects the top and the front of the scalp by a receding hairline.

Causes

• Male pattern of baldness occurs due to genetic reasons or where there is a family history of baldness. The chances of affecting are increased when someone in the family is previously affected.
• Hormonal imbalance of the Male hormone testosterone, can also cause pattern baldness

Treatment

Homeopathic medicines like Sabal and Thuja are used for the treatment of male baldness pattern along with some other necessary therapies as decided by the doctors depending upon the condition of patients. The medicines used are natural inhibitors of Di-hydroxytestosterone which is actually a derivative of the male hormone testosterone.

Female Pattern Baldness

Female baldness pattern also referred to as androgenic alopecia which is very similar to the pattern baldness in men. The difference lies in the patter of loss of hair which is different in the males and the females.

Causes

• Female baldness pattern is caused due to heredity and the chances are higher in case if history exists in the family.
• Aging is another major cause of hair loss in the females which is quite normal with the increase of age.

Dry Hair

Dry hair is a state of hair that develops due to inadequate amount of moisture in the hair. This results in reducing its shine and softness and makes it look dull, frizzy and rough. Dry hair affects men and women of all ages, but mostly likely it would develop as you age.

Causes

• Environmental conditions such as extremely dry weather and hot climate can cause dry hair.
• Spending a lot of time in the sun or windy weather can result is dry hair.
• Swimming frequently in chlorinated water or salty water can also cause dry hair.
• Certain hair care habits like washing of hair too often, using too many chemicals on hair, use of harsh shampoos, conditioners and other styling products can cause the hair to dry.
• Some of the health conditions such as anorexia nervosa, hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism and Menkes syndrome can cause dryness of hair.

Treatment

The homeopathic treatment approach for dry hair includes the medicines lycopodium, natural mur, psorinum, Sulphur and phosphorus. These medicines help to retain moisture which in turns plays a vital role in the treatment of dry hair.

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata is actually the hair loss in patches from the scalp and in some cases can affect hair-bearing skin. This is a condition when the follicles of the hair are damaged which results in the loss of hair.

Causes

• This is usually due to an abnormal immune system where the immune system of the body attacks the hair follicles.
• The genetic make up of a person along with a combination of several other factors cause hair loss in patches.

Treatment

Vinca minor is the top homeopathic medicine for the treatment of Alopecia areata with the help of which the immune system of the body is optimized. Apart from this, fluoric, phosphorus, baryta crab lycopodium, silicea and arsenic album are also readily used in the treatment of Alopecia areata.

Alopecia Totalis

Alopecia Totalis is a type of hair loss that results in complete baldness of the scalp. It gradually starts off with small coin sized patches of hair loss which rapidly changes into entire loss of hair on your head.

Causes

• Alopecia Totalis is caused by a defective defense mechanism of the body where the body’s defense system attacks the healthy hair follicles resulting in loss of hair.
• Genetics also plays a vital role in causing Alopecia Totalis and therefore a family of history of the disease increases the chances of occurrence in the other individuals of the family.

Treatment

Calcarea Phosphoricum followed by fluoric acid are the top homeopathic remedies for Alopecia Totalis. In an addition to this, silicea and lycopodium are also used in the procedure of treatment.

Alopecia Universalis

Alopecia Universalis is a type alopecia areata. This is a condition where the hair loss occurs not only from the scalp but also other parts of the body as well. Alopecia Barbae

Alopecia Barbae is a condition of hair loss which takes place in the beard region that includes the chin, jawline and cheeks. It is not a contagious disorder and happens to a very few men.

Causes

• The primary cause of Alopecia Barbae is again due to a defective immune system of the body. The hair follicles of the beard regions and the men happens to lose hair in patches.
• Any individual who has a family history of Alopecia Barbae are at a greater risk of having the condition.
